Heather Keets Wright Lends Her Talents to “Milestone Generations,” a New Documentary Now Streaming on HBO Max

Milestone Generations

The co-founder and CEO of Wright Creative adds producer to her already impressive list of accolades and credits

Charlotte, N.C. (July 29, 2022) – Wright Creative co-founder Heather Keets Wright is among the talented team of creators behind the forthcoming documentary “Milestone Generations,” a film directed by Justice A. Whitaker, available to stream on HBO Max beginning July 29.

Narrated by award-winning actor and musician Method Man, “Milestone Generations” chronicles the relaunch of Milestone Comics and Milestone Media’s mission to address not only the lack of superheroes of color in comics but also the lack of Black and diverse storytellers in the comic book industry.

Keets Wright, who was tapped by Courageous Studios as a Supervising Producer on the documentary, brought her branded storytelling and journalistic lens to the production — providing a unique blend of content marketing experience and cultural insight. The project is the result of a partnership between DC, Milestone Media, and Ally.

“It was an honor to play a part in the production of this wonderful film, which has been a long time coming,” said Keets Wright, who co-founded Wright Creative with journalist and documentary filmmaker Mark W. Wright in 2015. “For me, it was awesome to watch director Justice Whitaker; comic book writer Evan Narcisse, who served as story producer; and the entire Courageous production team in action. We all had to be careful, thoughtful, and protective of Black history and culture, while still being creative. We served as stewards of this not-terribly-well-known story. There was a lot to tell and a lot to get right.”

Milestone Media — co-founded in 1993 by artist Denys Cowan, writers Dwayne McDuffie and Michael T. Davis, and Black Enterprise EVP/Chief Content Officer Derek T. Dingle — partnered with DC and changed the landscape of comic books forever, to make it more inclusive and more like their world.

Last year Cowan, alongside Milestone Media partner and award-winning producer Reginald Hudlin, relaunched Milestone Comics with DC to continue the Milestone mission into the future. The film examines the founders’ trajectory throughout the last 30 years, detailing their unwavering commitment, passion, and perseverance to rise to the top of the comic book industry.

For Keets Wright, bringing Black stories to fruition is not only a pleasure but a responsibility. Her production company has two branded film projects in the works: “Can’t Retire From This,” about girls’ and women’s basketball, and “The Bison Project,” a podcast series about the first Historically Black College to win a national collegiate championship.

“This experience proved there are countless stories of Black success, innovation, and creativity that need to be told, and American businesses and brands have an obligation to help tell them — to not just siphon from the culture, but to give back and to sustain it,” says Keets Wright.
