“Charlotte Cares for Trayvon”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 27, 2012) – A march in honor of  slain Trayvon Martin is scheduled for Sunday, April 1, in Uptown Charlotte, on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets.  The peaceful demonstration is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. Martin, a 17-year-old high school student, was shot and killed, in Sanford, Fla., on February 26. His killer, George Zimmerman, has yet to be arrested.

People all over the country have expressed their outrage with this case, resulting in hundreds of rallies, marches and protests to gain justice for Martin. Kyle Murray, 23, who is a recent college graduate and fashion stylist, joined the fight by organizing the upcoming event in Charlotte.

“I started making moves to get my friends and family involved in something important,” said Murray. “This affects us all because it could have been me, one of our brothers, sons, nephews, grandsons or friends. This hit too close to home for me; I felt like Charlotte needed to be heard and show that we care.”

Everyone is invited to walk in memory of Trayvon Martin in hoodies to show respect and fight for justice. There will be prayer, speakers, special guests and a dance dedicated to Martin during the event.
