You’ve probably heard the statistics, “Every 47 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV/AIDS in the United States;” however, have you ever really thought about what that means?

This epidemic has been around for a long time, but people, women in particular, are still being infected at an alarming, deadly rate.  Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD), and The Red Pump Project is committed to raising the  awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Their mission is to promote HIV prevention through education, and open dialogue about the issues that surround sexual and reproductive health.

Founded in March 2009, Red Pump uses the red shoe as a symbol of empowerment to represent the strength and courage of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.   The work that Red Pump does is critical.  By making awareness cool and fashionable, this organization can get the attention of those who need to hear the message the most.

The Rock the Red Pump® campaign launched March 2009 as a way to recognize NWGHAAD. The premise of the campaign is simple; bloggers are asked to place a badge on their site and wear a pair of red shoes as a way to demonstrate support for women and girls who are affected by HIV/AIDS.

As a company, JSW supports Red Pump activities, events and initiatives wholeheartedly and considers Red Pump our charity of choice.  All members of the JSW team have embraced the cause and are committed to educating the masses and getting the word out.  We proudly “Rock The Red Pump” and hope you do too!  To learn more about The Red Pump Project, visit www.redpump.org
