Charlotte, N.C. (August 2, 2021) – Mia Love of Mia Love Live Productions presents This is My Brain on Anxiety: The Detailed Experience of an Anxious, Black Woman on August 28 at the Duke Energy Theater. The five-part original production will reveal the personal and cultural journey of a Black woman dealing with anxiety.
Through storytelling, creative graphics, music, and audience participation, Mia Love will educate and inspire the audience on the effects of anxiety and mental health challenges. The show is an extension of Mia Love’s web series, “So Anxious,” which premiered in October 2020 to help other people navigate anxiety during a global pandemic. This is My Brain on Anxiety: The Detailed Experience of an Anxious Black Woman will provide a more intimate look into Mia’s personal life while focusing on getting to the root of anxiety in the Black community.
“A lot of times, the discussion around mental health is very tipped-toed around or not discussed at all,” says Love. “The purpose of this show is to stop or to lessen the tip-toeing around the subject of mental health and address it, but also doing it in a way where you feel like you’re relatable and you can talk about it. Also, if I’m not afraid to put it all on the line, I’m trying to help you. I’m not going to judge you… It’s okay. Let’s just get help and talk about it. Let’s see how we can get better.”
Charlotte media personality and community activist Ohavia Phillips will be the show’s host. In April, Phillips was named Charlotte Magazine’s top influencer during the Best of the Best Awards. She is the creator and host of The Oh Show LIVE!, an interactive web show that captures authentic and impactful conversations surrounding the community and encourages its viewers on how to be a part of the change. Phillips is currently pursuing her doctorate in business administration with a focus on organizational management and crisis communication.
The show will take place on August 28 at the Duke Energy Theater located at 345 N. College St. There will be two run times, occurring at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets start at $20 and are available online via CarolinaTix.
