Mason Parker’s New Single, “Black Girl Magic,” Debuts June 3

Black Girl Magic Single

Charlotte, N.C. – Today Charlotte-based hip-hop artist, actor, and lyricist Mason Parker released “Black Girl Magic” (BGM), the first single from his upcoming EP “The Paperback Hero Saga.” Produced by H-Wood, YoBuddy, YUNG Citizen, and MillionDollaFingers, BGM is a celebratory and endearing ode to Black women. The single features singer-songwriter Dennis Reed Jr. and The Trap Choir.

In “Black Girl Magic,” Parker uses the popular phrase to highlight his adoration and respect for the full spectrum of Black women. Coined by cultural pioneer CaShawn Thompson and popularized by Beverly Bond, Former First Lady Michelle Obama and a host of others, the phrase expresses positivity and empowerment amongst Black women and helps them to recognize the beauty, power, and resilience they exhibit. In the same vein, this song celebrates the embodiment of accomplishments and general amazingness of Black women across the diaspora.

“Black Girl Magic comes from the most innocent and sincere place,” explains Parker. “It is a love letter to express my appreciation for Black women in general–no matter the context, whether it’s my daughter, wife, mother, aunt, or grandmother. Just the fact that you are a Black woman, it is because of you, I am who I am. I owe my existence to Black women, in a figurative and literal sense regarding my family and loved ones.”

“Black Girl Magic” is available now on all streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal. You can follow Mason’s journey in real-time by visiting his Twitter @iammasonparker and Instagram @iammasonparker704.
