Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund Gives Back to Students in the Charlotte Area

The Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund (CHASF) will host its Annual Gala on May 6 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the NASCAR Hall of Fame (400 East Martin Luther King Blvd) in Uptown Charlotte. The annual spring gala, now in its second year, is a fundraiser to support college-bound students living in Charlotte’s public housing as well as an awards ceremony where several community partners are honored for their commitment.

CHASF was founded in 1983 by John T. Crawford, and its mission is to make certain that every child living in Charlotte’s public housing communities has both the opportunity for and expectation of a college education. Because Charlotte is currently ranked number 50 out of 50 largest U.S. cities for the disadvantaged to advance economically, this makes the important work that CHASF does integral to ensure that students who benefit from the organization’s programs—providing financial aid, mentoring and guidance—are helping teens and young adults in our local community beat the odds. For the past 34 years, more than three million dollars have been awarded to students; the scholarship fund is administered by Foundation For The Carolinas.

CHASF will honor the following community partners during the gala:

  • Founder’s Award: Dale F. Halton, well known for being the former President and CEO of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Charlotte, has made philanthropy a way of life and is a 20 year supporter of CHASF.
  • Mission Award: This award is presented to business entities who through their patronage and partnership with CHASF have made significant contributions to its mission of assisting Charlotte youth and their families to afford college. The Carolina Panthers have been exemplary partners and are deserving of this recognition.
  • Partner’s Award: This award is presented to a non-profit partner who has made a significant contribution in helping CHASF pursue its mission. Charlotte Housing Authority support and partnership has helped CHASF serve its purposes of reaching and identifying those students who need the help the most.

The evening will feature a cocktail hour, dinner and live entertainment. Individual tickets are $125.00 and attire is Black Tie Optional.
