Day Runner, Inc. Pledges $100,000 Gift to Harvey B. Gantt Center for Community Programs

Day Runner

Day Runner, Inc., a Charlotte-based on demand delivery service for both individuals and businesses, will donate $100,000 to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African Arts + Culture to support their 2018 educational and arts programming initiatives for the Queen City. This gift is a key component of Day Runner’s corporate commitment to philanthropy and giving back to local community efforts. Day Runner is the first Black-owned company to become one of the Gantt Center’s major corporate partners with a monetary gift of this size.

“It’s our responsibility as a business that earns in this community to reinvest in our community,” says Marvin Walker, Day Runner, Inc. Founder and CEO. “Day Runner takes pride in giving back and we’re pleased to do so with the Harvey B. Gantt Center.”

The gift will be used for a variety of programming throughout 2018, including educational programming that will allow for 1,000 students to benefit from Gantt Center resources—field trips, in-school artistic workshops as well as other programs that encourage youth engagement with the arts. Additionally, Day Runner’s monetary gift will be used in part for the Gantt Center’s annual Jazzy Holiday Gala which raises funds for other organizational programs.

“This is an exciting time for the Gantt Center. As we identify new ways to expand our impact on the community, support from the private sector is key. Day Runner’s contribution at such a high level further opens the door for us to make the arts accessible to children and families throughout Charlotte. At a time when the arts have lost funding on a federal level, we especially appreciate the commitment of local businesses that can help us to expand our outreach in a sustainable way,” says Gantt Center President & CEO David Taylor.

Walker, along with Day Runner’s team of drivers and staff, hope their sponsorship will serve to challenge other successful Charlotte-based black businesses and entrepreneurs to provide support to the local community by giving back to the Gantt Center and other organizations that provide resources to underserved communities.
