Amplify Consulting Wins $100,000 Contract To Provide Community Engagement Consulting Services for The City of Charlotte’s Vision Zero Plan

Amplify Consulting

Charlotte, N.C. – Amplify Consulting, under the direction of founder and principal consultant Christine Edwards, recently won an 18-month contract, with the City of Charlotte for its Vision Zero plan. Vision Zero aims to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and severe injuries while increasing safety, health, and mobility for all. The contract, valued at $101,055, is in partnership with Kimley Horn, where Amplify Consulting will utilize community engagement tactics to help make the community more aware of the Vision Zero Task Force’s Task ongoing efforts to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries on Charlotte streets by 2030, particularly in communities of color where, historically, there has been a disparate impact.

Amplify will help to facilitate goals for the project related to coordination with the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) and with the Vision Zero Task Force by developing the engagement strategy, communication planning, and administrative implementation. Led by Edwards, the Amplify team has already worked closely with CDOT on the Charlotte MOVES Strategic Mobility Plan,  so this is a natural extension of that work.

“Living and working in a growing city like Charlotte, I know firsthand the importance of traveling safely, whether in my car or walking in my neighborhood,” says Edwards. “In learning about Vision Zero, I found out that there are, on average, 82 crashes per day in Charlotte, and people walking and bicycling account for nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities. That’s an astounding number, but I am not surprised. In our transportation equity work, we have encountered people who face challenges in their daily commute and just want to get home without incident. I’m ready to make “drive safe” a part of Charlotte’s lexicon. The more we focus on improving safe traffic habits and our City’s street systems, the more we will be able to protect the people traveling in and around our great city.”

Communities of color and those communities within the city’s Corridors of Opportunity are disproportionately impacted by traffic injuries and death. Edwards and her team will work diligently to create an awareness campaign to connect multiple local and statewide stakeholders, including elected officials, with those communities most impacted.
