AMPLIFY CONSULTING AND CLT PUBLIC RELATIONS TO HOST VIRTUAL VOTER ENGAGEMENT EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 14

CLT Primary Twitter Chat

#CLTPrimary Twitter Chat will Address the Absence of 2021 General Elections in Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. – Amplify Consulting and CLT Public Relations will co-host #CLTPrimary, a Twitter chat to engage and inform Charlotte voters about the importance of municipal elections and address questions about the City Council’s decision to postpone the November elections until 2022. The virtual conversation will take place on Twitter on September 14 at 6:00 p.m.

The NC Legislature passed a law postponing the 2021 City Council District election to March 8, 2022. This was decided after a delay in the 2020 US Census, which impacted  City Council’s ability to redraw district lines. As a result, City Council agreed to postpone the Mayoral and At-Large Election 2022 instead of having two separate elections. Postponing the elections has left area voters with more questions than answers, and the #CLTPrimary conversation hopes to fill that void. The discussion will be framed in three sections:

  1. Elections and turnout
  2. City Council governance and structure
  3. City Council investment decisions, and their effect on Charlotteans

Christine Edwards, founder and principal consultant at Amplify Consulting, and Bryan Holladay, principal at CLT Public Relations, have partnered to provide a vehicle for critical discussion during what would have been the 2021 election cycle.

“We often forget how elections provide this space for civic engagement conversations, so we’re hoping this event will fill a gap and keep the momentum going through this busy season of unprecedented changes happening in our community,” says Edwards. “We also wanted to provide some easy ways for Charlotteans to stay involved throughout the election season.”

One of the planned questions that will be posed to chat participants involves Charlotte’s Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and its possible impact on how people will vote in the City Council Election — one of the many issues of importance to voters Edwards and Holladay will highlight during the online discussion.

“Often, when people are talking about the importance of voting, they are focusing on national politics and are overlooking the importance of local elections,” says Holladay. “We are looking at ways to help Charlotte residents engage in politics at the local level by helping to explain the policies, processes, and players in Charlotte politics.”
